Orange County Business Council honors OC Waste & Recycling

Landfill Gas-to-Energy Project turns Red Tape into Red Carpet

At a special reception Wednesday, November 20, 2013, OC Waste & Recycling was presented with the Award for Public-Private Partnership for the Olinda Alpha Landfill Renewable Energy Development Project. As part of a multi-phase process, the department extracts landfill gas, converts it to electricity and then sells that energy to Anaheim’s city-owned public utility, which provides power to more than 22,000 homes and businesses. The project created 155 jobs during construction and 25 permanent jobs for day-to-day operations, at no cost to Orange County taxpayers.

Additionally, John Wayne Airport Director Alan Murphy was recognized with the Award for Public Sector Leadership. Murphy is responsible for managing a $305 million annual budget and a staff of 174 employees. Recently, he oversaw the on-schedule and on-budget completion of a major improvement program, a multi-year effort that involved construction of a new terminal with six new commercial passenger gates, new security checkpoints, major parking improvements and completion of a central utility plant. Under Murphy’s management, the airport also successfully expanded international flights.
