What are your hours of operation?
Open: Monday through Saturday - Operating hours vary by landfill. Click on each landfill for specific operating hours.
Closed: Major Holidays: New Years Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving and Christmas

Are you open when it's raining?
Landfills do not close due to rain. The Household Hazardous Waste Collection Centers are closed when it is raining due to safety precautions.
 
What landfill do I go to if I am not from Orange County?

Where can I dispose of household hazardous waste?
There are four Household Hazardous Waste collection centers in Orange County. They are located in Anaheim, Huntington Beach, Irvine and San Juan Capistrano.
 
How much does it cost to use the HHWCC's?
Absolutely No Charge! Orange County residents may dispose of household hazardous waste at the Collection Centers for FREE.
 
What are the operating hours of the Household Hazardous Waste Collection Centers?
All HHW Collection Centers are open Tuesday through Saturday, 9 AM to 3 PM. The centers are closed on rainy days, Christmas, New Years, Thanksgiving and Independence Day.
 
How much paint can I bring to the Household Hazardous Waste Collection Center?
You may bring up to 15 gallons or 125 pounds per trip. You may make as many trips as you need.
 
Can I bring hazardous waste from my business to a Household Hazardous Waste Collection Center?
Currently, no. A program is being planned for Conditionally Exempt Small Quantity Generators of Hazardous Waste. Upon meeting certain specified conditions, small businesses, churches, schools, non-profit organizations and governmental agencies will be able to dispose of their hazardous waste for a reasonable charge at one of our HHW Collection Centers. Please check back in November 2001 to find out more about this program.
 
What is accepted at the Household Hazardous Waste Collection Centers?
The collection centers accept products such as latex and oil base paint, antifreeze, batteries, used oil, fertilizers, pesticides, herbicides, hobby supplies and more. Click here to find out more.

Why wasn't my trash picked up?
Trash is picked up by trash haulers that are under contract for trash collection. To find out why your trash wasn't picked up you will need to contact them directly.

Where else can I take my trash?
Non-Orange County citizens call 1-(714)-834-4000.
Orange County citizens may take their trash to privately owned transfer stations for a fee.
A transfer station is a solid waste facility where smaller refuse collection vehicles dump their loads of waste onto a tipping floor. This waste is then placed into larger transfer vehicles for transport to the point of ultimate disposal. Use of this type of facility reduces hauling costs and also reduces the number of trucks on the highway.

Do you accept tires?
Tires are no longer accepted at Orange County Landfills. For additional information about waste tire hauling and disposal, contact www.ciwmb.ca.gov/tires.
 
Payment
How do I open a Deferred Charge Payment Account for my business?
If you are a regular business user you may apply for a Deferred Charge Payment Account. You can pick up an application form at any of the landfills or call us at (714) 834-4000 and ask to be transferred to the Accounts Receivable Department.
 
What forms of payment do you accept at the landfill?
We accept cash or check. We do not accept any credit cards. Please make checks payable to the County of Orange.
 
What do you charge per ton?
The tonnage rate is $46 per ton for the general public.
 
How do they determine how much I am going to pay?
A vehicle is weighed upon entering pass the fee booth. The vehicle is re-weighed when it is leaving the landfill. The difference in the weight is the amount the fee will be based upon.

What do I need to show proof of Orange County residency?
Individual
A valid drivers license or other official proof of Orange County residency.
A current utility bill or similar invoice displaying address of property in Orange County.
Other documentation acceptable to the fee station supervisor.

Small Business (Self Hauler)
Valid business license, but only if the waste was generated at the address displayed on the business license.
Contract for services that include hauling waste from the job site in the same Orange County city where the trash originated.
A hauler manifest or work order indicating an Orange County city as
the city of origin.
Other documentation acceptable to the fee stations supervisor.
